Prayer for the Victim of a Violent Death

Prayer For the Victim of a Violent Death--from the book "Praying in the Presence of Our Lord for the Holy Souls" by Susan Tassone

Lord our God, you are always faithful and quick to show mercy. Our brother (sister) [name] was suddenly (violently) taken from us.
Come swiftly to his (her) aid, have mercy on him (her), and comfort his (her) family and friends by the power and protection of the Cross.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

More prayer requests

Please pray for Elizabeth and Igor who took their own lives. Thank you.

Prayer For One Who Has Taken His Own Life

Prayer For One Who Has Taken His Own Life

(Father Benedict J. Groeschel, C.F.R.) taken from the book "Praying in the Presence of Our Lord for the Holy Souls" by Susan Tassone

Crucified Savior, there is no place for me to go but to the foot of Your Cross. I feel desolation, defeat, betrayal, rejection. I tried. I tried to stop the flood, to calm the earthquake, to put out the raging fire. I did not even know how desperate it all was. There is absolutely no consolation, no answer, no softening of my grief. It is complete darkness. I grieve for my dear friend [or relative], for what was and what could have been. Is life so awful that all struggle had to end, that defeat was inevitable? There is nothing but silence outside and screaming inside. I know that the wound will heal, but now I don’t even want it to. I know that there will be a huge scar in its place. That scar will be all that I have left.
I am filled with terror for the one I loved and cared for. Salvation. If only I was certain of salvation for the one who is gone, defeated by this life. There is no one I can come to but You – Crucified One. Your prayer of dereliction, which always puzzled me before, now is the only thing with any meaning at all. I put my dear one whose body is destroyed into Your hands. Reach down from the Cross and embrace this wounded and broken soul. You descended into hell. Find our friend on the edge and rescue the one who has gone from us. We have no place to go in the world, in the whole universe but here to You, to Your Cross – it is our only hope. Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend this spirit. Amen.

No coincidence

A new member of our Facebrook group wrote:  Hello, My father just handed me a copy of a page off of your website, "Divine Mercy for Lost Souls" today, just to pray for all those who have commited suicide. Then when I got home this evening, I had an email from a family member stating that the brother of a friend had just commited suicide. I don't think it was a coincidense that my dad had just found and printed your website.
Please pray for the soul of this young man. I'm not sure of his name.
Thank you!

I answered:  You are right. That was not a coincidence. Nothing happens by chance. My condolences to your friend. Tell your friend that we are praying. Also, since there is no time in heaven you can pray for the salvation of his soul AFTER he dies. St. Padre Pio spoke about this. I have heard it called anticipatory prayer.

On the "light" side

A member sent a note to me with the following little story. She said I could share it, but not to use her name.

I have to share another funny thing,
I had been trying to make tortillas and they just weren't coming out right, too "chewy". I figured I wasn't paying enough attention to the timing, so I started praying 3 of St. Gertrude's "Eternal Father" prayers on the first side, then 1 on the second side. They started coming out great! light, fluffy and soft. After a few batches I thought I would try other prayers just for some variety. Even though the timing was the same, (I checked it against the clock) it didn't work, I was back to chewy. So, now, I always pray for the holy souls while making tortillas and they come out fine--even when I get distracted and my timing is off. I affectionately call them "purgatillas".

More to pray for

I received the following prayer requests to pray for souls who committed suicide and one person possibly suicidal:

Emily age 21 2007

my cousin, Johnny, and his wife Tammy (years ago)
murder/suicide

Please pray for my son, John, age 24. He can't make it through college (not because he isn't smart) and feels he has no purpose in life. He suffers from depression and ADD, and was hospitalized 2 years ago with suicidal thoughts.

I also received a request from another woman to pray for her father,Frank Emanuele, who committed suicde.

urgent prayer request

An old friend of mine just sent me the following note. She had no idea about my train story. I sent her to our website to read it and she could nto believe it. I asked permission to post the request and she said yes. Please pray for thsi family. Thanks

I hardly know how to even explain the desperate need for prayer for a young man named Robbie. Robbie is in his middle to late 20's, his mom is the most Godly woman I know. Robbie decided to live an alternate lifestyle and has gone through many mental issues. About 3 years ago he changed his life went to school and became a nurse. Unfortunately he stopped his medication went back to the old lifestyle, refused to acknowledge his parents. A couple days ago he tried to take his life by jumping off a bridge in NYC onto a railroad track. God spared his life, the train that was coming was on the other track and missed him, he had his wallet on him for ID and his cell phone was intact which is how they found his parents. He had multiple fractures, throughout his body, his nose was pushed into his brain, he is having surgery today to pull his nose out it is a 12 hour surgery. He needs many surgeries if he survives today. But he prognosis is not good.
His mom has had back surgery and has been unable to go to NYC. They are trying to get things ready in New York so she can go but it will be extremely painful for her. His dad has heart issues and is also not in good health and unable to travel, their older son is in NYC making decisions.
Please pray for this family. Thank you.

Prayer request

Please pray for a teen named Logan who killed himself recently. He was an A student and a model teen and son. The family has no idea why he did it. They are devastated as you can imagine. Please pray for them too. Thanks.

"Consider then...the magnitude of these sufferings which the souls in Purgatory endure; and the means which we have of mitigating them: our prayers, our good works, and, above all, the holy sacrifice of the Mass." ~ St. John Vianney

More prayer requests

Please pray for the following:

Mia, who committed suicide in October of 2002 because of a boyfriend killed in a motorcycle accident.  Apparently, he had asked to use her car, and she wouldn't let him.  She had dinner with her family and then left and stood in front of a train.

Also, pray for KJ who took his life last year.

Several years ago Paula committed suicide because she was so distraught over not being able to have children.

Another person asked for prayers for Nancy. He is not positive that she committed suicide, but thinks she did.

And for Richard who killed his wife and then himself years ago.

Urgent request

I just got this urgent prayer request tonight. "please help me to pray for Daniela 33 years old .She tried to commit suicide is shot from the floor 23.and she fell on the windshield of a parked car she is in a very critical condition pray for her and all her familie .... her husband is desvastated"

During her lifetime, French mystic, Marthe Robin, would “travel” spiritually to those in despair and considering suicide. She would put them back on their feet. May her ardent prayer continue her work of compassion, in our time when too many young people choose death rather than life.

Prayer request from a seminarian

Please off your prayers for two high school girls who committed suicide two weeks ago. One girl was from my home town while the other was from a city south of my hometown. Please pray for Kayla and Aimee, for their souls and consolation for their family and friends.

More prayer requests

I just got a letter in the mail requesting prayers for Nick who may be suicidal. There is a history of suicide in the family. His great-aunt Catherine and great-grandfather Charles both committed suicide years ago.  Please pray for their souls also.
Thank you.

An ancient Christian writer wrote that, "of all divine things, the most divine is to share with God in the saving of souls." GOD AND SOULS was the motto of St. Faustina.

Prayer request

Fran was not able to post. Here is what she wrote:

Please pray, dear friends, for a youngster in the 8th grade, who has taken his life, and for his family, friends and teachers.

New member felt same urge to pray

Joanne wants to join the group. Right now she is an offline member. She said I could share what she wrote:

I was so deeply moved by your story "Divine Mercy For Lost Souls".  When I came to the end and read that you had set up a website where people can sign up to pray for those who have committed suicide, those who were contemplating it, etc., I KNEW that I had to write to you.  During the years that I have prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Jesus has shown me the special intentions and/or groups of people that He wants me to pray for.  He even gives me the words.  A little less than a year ago, our Lord added this intention (and in these words): "For those who are contemplating suicide; that their hand be stopped, and that they will instead take hold of Your outstretched Hands and allow You to pull them out of their pit of despair (and out of their fear), into Your Divine Arms of Love (and into Your Church).  Since that time, Jesus has added the following to this intention:  "For those who are contemplating suicide or an abortion."
Now you know why I had to write and also why I am compelled to join in this prayer with others.  So please sign me up!  Below you will find my name, address and other contact information.  Obviously, this is something that is so very, very needed, as God is placing this on the hearts of many.

Trains again

I have been hearing trains like crazy today, and have been praying. (If you don't know my story go to https://sites.google.com/site/divinemercyforlostsouls/.

Then I heard a very loud shot like a gun going off. Now, that is unusual where I live, so I am hoping it was just a warning shot for me to post two new prayer requests I got for suicidal people. Please pray for Nathan and Barbara. Thank you.

More train whistles

Virginia would like to be added to the list of "offline" prayer warriors. She wrote:

"I read your story on spiritdaily and wanted to share with you a
similar experience.   A few months ago in early December,  I also had an
experience of tuning into the train whistles, here in Steubenville.
There are actual trains here, but I live 1 1/2 miles from the tracks and
don't pay too much attention to them.   However, on a few days  in
December, the whistles sounded fairly close as I tuned in more intently.
There seemed to be an "urgency" to the alarming train whistles and  the
idea occurred to me that someone was trying to commit suicide and needed
prayer.   This went on throughout a few days in December and also in
January and I shared the train whistle experience with a few friends.  I
was certainly surprised when I read of your similar experience and it was
around the same time.  Honestly, this experience is not really new and has
been happening for many years in other ways, not necessarily with the
trains.  I have worked as a behavioral health nurse and in that capacity
deal with severely depressed and suicidal people regularly.  There have
been many times when I felt a calling to pray for someone who was in
anguish.
Reading your story has inspired me and confirmed my own and I would like
to be a part of your ministry.   Thank you for your work on behalf of lost
souls."

I was so amazed that someone else had the same experience with the trains as I did. To me, this is a confirmation that this ministry is from God (not that I had any doubts, but someone else might).

Prayer request

Please pray for Jennie who committed suicide on Sept. 10, 2010. The person requesting the prayers said that Jennie struggled with depression most of her adult life and was working on her Master's degree and was beginning her student teaching. How traumatic that must have been for her students.

urgent prayer request

I got this urgent prayer request last night. If someone wants to "adopt" Michelle to cover with prayer every day, that would be great. (I have  names of deceased to post but do not want to overwhelm you, so I will do it gradually over the next few days.)

"My niece Michelle - age 25 - has tried to kill herself three times since 12/10/10.  She's currently in the hospital for the 3rd time and I'm praying that this time they keepher as long as is needed and that when she is released it is with proper follow-up treatment that will enable her to cope with life and be able to move forward.  She does not have medical insurance so I'm not sure if this is just how the mental health system works (or from what I've seen so far doesn't work).  I'd also like to ask for prayers for my sister who has found her each time and is under tremendous emotional stress and exacerbated physical problems as a result."

Did you know that St. Elizabeth Ann Seton contemplated suicide as a teenager? There is hope!!!!

Prayer request from a distraught mom

Here is one of the prayer requests I received tonight:

"Please can you pray for the soul of my 18 year old son Adrian who committed suicide on 11th October - feast of the Motherhood of Our Lady.  He had been jilted by a girl.  We had no warning.  He went off to the woods near our house and was found two days later.

Despite the great number of Masses that have already been said for him, I still worry desperately for his soul.  My husband and I have been begging Heaven for consolation - some sign that he is safe - but as yet, nothing.  At the moment I am feeling completely destroyed.  I have turned to Padre Pio in this crisis.

This may be of interest to others in the same position... Adrian had a very poor sense of smell.  I have found out that this can be an early warning sign of serious mental illness, for example schizophrenia.  We didn't find this out until after his death.

Thank you for your prayers.  We will remember you in ours."

Urgent prayer request

I just got this urgent prayer request:

"I have asked for prayers for my daughter Heather who tried to kill herself
about 2 weeks past. Her blood acholol level at that time was 3xs the legal
limit. Just spoke to her this evening and she again mentions sucide; told me if
you don't hear from me again remember I love you. I believe
she is drinking; cries she's depressed/no insurance/but refuses to call
hospital & tell them she talks about sucide & is depressed; won't call a sucide
hot line/or go to AA Please pray for her Perhaps our prayers will infuse her
w/the desire to live and seek help. Thank you"

I invoked the help of St. Anthony, saint of miracles and lost souls, for her. I still have his first class relic on loan. If anyone wants a relic card of him (3rd class relic) to pray with, let me know.

Books on Purgatory

Last night I added a list of books about Purgatory to our website. This list came from the library of books the priest at our church has regarding Purgatory. This priest is very devoted to praying for the Holy Souls and has a Purgatory Society which meets weekly for Mass and Rosary, etc. and a Purgatory Sodality which meets once a month. His collection of books is always available for borrowing.
You can see the list on this page. https://sites.google.com/site/divinemercyforlostsouls/books-about-purgatory
I also changed the background at the site. I'm still learning....
Feel free to contact me with any additions you think I should make to this list.

Urgent request and more prayer support

Please pray for 14 year-old Robert who is feeling suicidal.

Also please pray for the repose of the souls of Carl, Anni, Kirby, Mark and Brad, who all committed suicide years ago.

The good news is that we have two new prayer warriors to help us pray: Joan and Linda. As of today, there are 86 people in the Facebook group, including a priest and a deacon, and 6 offline people, in addition to the people on this blog. Praise the Lord!

I can't thank you enough for helping in this important apostolate.

More names and more prayer support

Please pray for Jerry and Melissa who are suicidal, and Eddie, Philip, Linda, Timothy, and Dan who have committed suicide.

Marge, who does not have a computer, will join us in prayer, I know Marge and she is a real prayer warrior.

As we post more and more names, if you feel you heart tugging towards one particular name for some reason, you can "adopt" that person if you want, and offer special prayers for that person. I, myself, have "adopted"  one of the persons we have posted who is suicidal. I have, for example,  offered my Communions for her, holy hours, special prayers, etc.

As I post this, I am hearing train whistles. The souls are begging for our prayers. Thanks for helping. They will never forget what you  are doing for them.

Another request

A priest has asked that we pray for Timothy who committed suicide las week and for his grieving family.

On another note, Dolores, one of our off-line members noticed there was no Mass intention in our parish bulletin for last Thursday, so she had a Mass said for those who are suicidal. I am sure someone was helped by that because the Mass heals. Thanks, Dolores.

God's plan in 1999

As the news spreads about our group and we get more and more requests, we need to arm ourselves with prayer and fasting for strength. There is no question that this is from God. While looking for something in my journal, I found the following entry from July of 1999. It took all these years of prayer and fasting for it to come to fruition.

7/22/99
"In church today I got a VERY, VERY strong message  that I am supposed to specialize in one area with Our Lady of Life. (Our Lady of Life encompasses so many different areas, anti-abortion being the most obvious.)  The message I got was that I am supposed to concentrate on suicide prevention, because this is something that is not talked about much.   I'll have to pray on it more to realize
specifically what I am supposed to do.   This message that I got is SO STRONG that I cannot explain how it feels. Two hours later Sandy called me from Burton Funeral Home and said that she had 2 books about suicide that she wanted to drop off to me.  I couldn’t believe it because I hadn’t talked to Sandy on the phone for about 6 months.  This was definitely my confirmation."

Prayer request for the souls of suicide victims

I  received the following note today:

I am glad to have just discovered your site--Some names of people I
have known who have comitted suicide:

A teen ager who accidentally comitted suicide while playing Russian
roulette with his father's pistol --"Brother" (1951)

--my best friend's mother with severe depression (she was like a
loving aunt to me): --Fanny (1979)
--and my friend's uncle (name unknown) who had committed suicide some
years previously: --"Fanny's brother"

A homesick African college student I was tutoring in English in 1968:
--Pat (1968)

Another fellow college student who drank herself to death because she
couldn't deal with the voices in her head:  --Mary (1969)

My step-Uncle's elderly widower father who committed suicide after
his beloved dog was taken from him when he was being coerced to go
into a nursing home: -- Earl.  (1970?)

Student age 16 who committed suicide (2010) on the first anniversary
of his mother's cancer death :--Jules
please pray also for his father, Chris , especially on the next
double anniversary.

--Also all the elderly British people one reads about in UK
newspapers who fly to the Swiss suicide clinic because they will not
endure death from painful sickness.

--Also in the UK a couple of single mothers who killed their
handicapped children, and then themselves, because they were
depressed, exhausted and overwhelmed as carers.

Thank you--
Raven

Payer request and more prayer support on the way!

I have been asked to put the name Brad on our list to pray for. He is suicidal.

And for the good news - Lesli is going to join us in praying for these intentions and will ask her prayer group also to pray. We welcome Lesli and her prayer group.

New testimony posted

I just wanted you to know that there is a new testimony posted on our website:
https://sites.google.com/site/divinemercyforlostsouls/home

St. Gertrude's Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory is also on there now.
