The remote Indigenous community of Doomadgee in north-west Queensland is in crisis after a spate of suicides. Doomadgee has been described as a place of hopelessness and despair, where high unemployment and drug and alcohol addiction is taking its toll on residents. Out of a population of just over 1,000, 14 people killed themselves last year, and this year already four people have taken their lives.
